Okay okay okay, now, I remember reading Hil's post about Nordies a while back and was incredulous about the fakies lurking in department stores. Well! Let me tell you, today I was the jeans police at Holt Renfrew in Winnipeg, and it wasn't pretty. I like looking at the jeans in there and they don't have very many (the store is the size of a closet,) and they have various different styles of Sevens. Well, I see this AWFUL looking pair of Flynts in Costa Rica, and they just look so cheap! Immediately my spidey senses were perked and I checked the tag, and sure enough - stitched. So I grab them and go the counter and say, "Excuse me, these jeans are fake." She was like, "What? Holt Renfrew purchases these jeans through a national..." and then I cut her off and I said, "They're fake. You see, the tag is common for a fake and it is stitched and yada yada yada, compared to real ones, yada yada yada." She got ALL huffy and was like, "Well, I'll mention this to my manager. Wait, show me what you mean." So I took her to a real pair and showed her the comparison and then she got real huffy! She was like, "Well! We don't take returns without a receipt." And I told her about the buy/switch/return and then it hit her that I was telling the truth. She asked me if I went around looking at jeans to spot fakes, and I just told her that jeans are my thing and I know jeans - probably not the BEST explanation, but whatever. She admitted they were a return, and she started asking different sales associates if the tag was their handwriting, and she just grabbed both pairs and told me she would talk to her manager about it. I was like, okkkaayyy. She then proceeded to talk on the phone angrily and I ran out of the store. Yipes. Anyways, my first experience like THAT! I think we should have like, official member card to give us credibility or something. Like, we have to write a test first and then get some sort of certification for a Jeans Detective. HA! Let them fear us! Seriously, they need to become more aware. I just had to share! I was freaked.

Hey! Wow! I'm glad you alerted them but why was she so mean?

I only know Sevens and to a lesser extent COHs, but when I want to buy "different" jeans I always go to a reputable store so I can be sure I'm getting authentics (or ask here LOL).

They really MUST train their sales associates! But, I wonder, how many people get caught trying to return or exchange fakes?

Maybe she thought I was lying or trying to pull a fast one on her...? I have no idea why she was so snippy! I thought they'd be so grateful and relieved that they would offer me a discout on some jeans! Or not... :P I was just so amazed that it happened here in little old Winnipeg.

That is crazy! I don't even bother going into stores that sell 7s in Wpg anymore.......too expensive! Where is Holt Renfrew? I don't even know lol

She was probably embarrassed because she is supposed to be the "authority" on the products they sell.

Good eyes!

I once had a dream that i was in a jeans store that sold Blue Cult, sevens, coh, true religion...etc. all the jeans were organized by the color/wash name. i found the sevens vancouver with the crystals and wanted to get them but they were $300. and i also found a fake pair of true religion jeans there.

I posted about the fakes I saw in Nordies last weekend, when I was in a rush and didn't have time to go show the salespeople. I have to go back to that mall tomorrow to return something and I'm soooo tempted to go check and see if those are still there and do something about it this time

*rolls her eyes* No good deed goes unpunished, eh?

I've run into a lot of snippy (hee, I love that word!) sales associates at Holt's.

This one time, I was browsing the furs section, just for fun, when the sales associate went up to me and said, "How did you know that we were having a sale today?" ... in a tone that suggested that I couldn't afford to breathe the air in their store otherwise. Cunt.
