That's exactly what I done. I found that when you cut the excess material the hem eventually turns up.

Hey I was also scared of screwing up and was going to take my jeans to a tailor until I was quoted $20-$27/pair from 2 different tailors. I got my mom to hem them in the end and it wasn't hard to do. Maybe practice on an old pair of jeans that are worn out or get someone you know to do them. I will save you a ton of $$$$ and I am going to learn how to hem also.

If you sew them, even if you mess up you can always take the stitching out...

I don't recommend glue, though, if it's your first time. It's impossible to get it out. I have 2 pairs of SFAM that have been just hanging in my closet for months now because I haven't been able to get all the glue out =(

Yeah, I bought the FabriTac glue & I haven't used it - too scared! The stiffness that will probably happen turned me off ... sewing is much better because if you deceide you want to sell/trade your jeans, they can be let back down.

oh, but it does! My inseam is 30" and my sister's is 27.5" and I've hemmed jeans for both of us. And one of hers was brand new never-been-hemmed studded agent kiedis. I think I took 10 inches off! And tucked it all inside -- no chopping (I couldn't bear to cut the studded agents they're so beautiful).

If you do try it, and don't like it, you can remove the glue with acetone. (use pure acetone, found in the paint/hardware section). I've tried it with my jeans and it works, but I used _so much glue_ that it keeps dissolving then reforming. But every time I soak them a little more of the glue comes out.

Won't it unravel where it is cut if a serger isn't used? I can hem my own jeans without the original hem, but I have been wanting to learn how to without spending a fortune on a serger.

errr... I don't cut mine, so I don't know if they would unravel or not. But I think there are a lot of HF members who hem their own jeans and who do cut them, so there must be a way to do it.
