]I went and spent the $72.00 at Nordstrom to see for myself the difference b/w a real made in Peru Lacoste Women's Pique Polo and a otherwise known as a made in Peru Lacoste. One of the biggest differences I noticed beside the tags and alligators, was in the fabric itself. The Nordstrom Pique Polo has a waffle feel to it, whereas the other feels like cotton. The N Polo's fabric has fine holes almost like a mesh type shirt where you can see your hand thru it, the other is solid and not see thru. Also the quality is undeniable in the Real Lacoste, the seams are all very clean and the stiching is perfect. Also in the Real Lacoste the sleeves are more capped than in the fake. I hope this is helpful!!!

Hi, thanks for these comparisons, they help a lot! But i was wondering if you could add another part. Can you please add pictures or a description of where the alligator should be positioned on the shirt. I have heard people say that some shirts are fake because the alligator is in the wrong spot. Could you please post something on this?

Do anyone know any ebay sellers that have authentic Lacoste? Or do you know any place to get authentic Lacoste for cheaper?

Heres a good tip. If one of the tags say "DEVANLAY" then they are guranteed authentic.

Charlene,

Do remember if the Seller for your Lacoste shirt offered 100% Money back garuntee? Also, did the Seller claim 100% Authenticity?

Just curious.. I found a seller that lists both of these staements in his/her ads. I figured.. What do I have to lose?

Anyway.. When i get my first item, I refernce your tips..

Thanks!

I followed all the rules to see if a lacoste polo is authentic and i think this one i got meets most if not all of them. Please help because if it is fake, i will send it back.

Also I noticed something strange. The holes for the buttons, the top one is horizontal, the bottom is vertical. Is it suppose to be like that?

Here's the deal, it seems like the only way now-a-days to tell a fake Lacoste is by looking at its model code found on the price tag.

it should starts with LXXXX XX XXX XX
Men:
L1212 - short sleeve pique
L1312 - long sleeve pique

Women:
PF168 or PF168E - short sleeve stretch pique
PF368E - classic long sleeve pique

51 - Peru factory (Central and North American market)
?? - India factory (Middle East, Asia, and some European countries)
?? - France factory (very rarely seen outside of France or western Europe)

some popular colors:

001 - white
031 - black
166 - navy
107 - yellow
240 - red
132 - green
476 - bordeaux
TO3 - flamingo
NSX - lawn green
TO1 - till blue
8LX - pearl
NXU - coastal blue
CBK - aegean blue

Size:
T3 - XS
T4 - S
T5 - M
T6 - L
T7 - XL
T8 - XXL

Thus, a Men's short sleeve pique yellow Peru made shirt in size small should read: L1212 51 107 T4

99.9-100% of the new Lacoste shirts on eBay are fakes, even though some are really good (all the design features are copied over, albeit different qualities). Another noticeable tell tale sign is the position of the crocodile, which correctly should be between the bottom button and the bottom of the placket and not horizontally to the bottom of the placket. Obviously, the buttons have to be mother of pearl. eBay sellers, even with thousands of feedbacks, will guarantee the authenticity of these fakes because they've been told from their supplier that there are flaws and/or these are not made to American standards. The only surefire way to get a real one is to fork out some real $$$ for them, go to the Lacoste outlet stores to save some $$$. 72 bucks for a shirt that most likely will never go out of style in your lifetime isn't such a bad investment. And like wine, it gets better with age. Good hunting. Lacoste.com has links for authorized online/offline retailers.

About the back of the button, I also bought 4 Lacoste polos light pink, fuchsia, light blue, and a lime green color from Nordstrom.com. I was looking at the back of the buttons on all of them and none of them had the varying colors on the back. Instead they are just plain pearly white, so I guess the colors aren't always going to be there.

Anyway, I am selling the light blue polo on ebay because the color doesn't look right on me. I guess that's what I get for buying it online. So if anyone is intrested in a size 36 light blue polo, then just go search for my name on ebay..same as my username on here (sal0917)_

If you have to go to that much trouble to differentiate a real Lacoste polo shirt from a good quality fake, then is it really such a bad thing to go with the fake?

There is only one Lacoste clothing shop in Sydney (only 2 in Australia) and they charge $170 (roughly $130 USD) for their polo shirts. No way in hell would I pay that much for a t-shirt. Even half of that price is a bit too much to stomach.

Just bought some lacoste shirts from http://rationalfashions.com/

I wear size 6, and the ones I was sent are too small. I notice on other lacoste shirts I've purchased from retail stores, they don't say "hencho en peru" - the ones from rational fashions do. But, I also notice the tags on this site that are "real" say that as well. Why would some say that and others don't?

Please please please tell me you found this site after you bought those shirts. RationalFashion is a notorious seller of fake items (IMO, and many other's here). Return them
