eBuyer Feedback - Frequently Asked Questions

What I think will happen with the feedback changes is:

1. it will cause the worried sellers to jump ship -- which it is already doing.

2. it will cause good small sellers to jump ship or become limited or NARU'd when they refuses to bow down to every scammer and asshole/dishonest/picky etc buyer. If you are selling a few items out of your closet or attic and accurately describe them you should not be put into a position to take a return just because the buyer thinks the item looks light red instead of pink! Most small sellers are trying to make a couple extra $ and cannot affod accepting a return on an accurately listed auction.

3. medium to large sellers will be limited/NARU'd or jump ship. Many medium to Large sellers profit margins are not as big as you might think. They do make a profit but if you throw in a scammer who steals $500 of their money in a week than they might as well not work since that could be the whole weeks profit. There is no point to work so hard just to have it taken away by a dishonest person. If the medium/large sellers are not up for kissing every rude buyers ass (for example the ones who take a nwt pair of jeans and hem them to a 28 inseam and than send them back for a return!) than they will end up with negatives and pretty soon be limited or NARU'd. If they choose to run an honest business where they do not devalue on customs forms they will get negatives!




What does that leave eBay with ....

New and fair weather sellers. Who knows if these sellers will come through or not. They might be great or they might send you a pair of jeans with a hole the size of a melon - but say the jeans were NWT! Customer service can vary from great to crap!

Sellers who sell enough volume where the negatives do not matter. They get a 1000 feedback a day and 10 of them are negs and 20 are neutrals but they get 900 unique positives so it negates all those bad feedbacks. There is minimal customer service because of so many transactions.


Sellers who will kiss anyones ass. These sellers will bend over backwards, forwards and sideways to make you happy. They do not care if they have to pay you off to get a positive feedback. They will break the law to please international buyers. These sellers will only last for so long before they snap and start getting negs. Than they will be limited and NARU'd.


Scammers. Scammers DO NOT CARE about negs. They are just in it for the money. They will scam you on one account and than move to a new account. eBay will NOT STOP them! Many of these people are pros and scamming is their job. These people sell fakes. Their account gets shut down they start a new account. They sell on that account until it is closed and start a new account after that. Repeat this process over and over and over. eBay will NOT STOP them! Customer service can range from crappy to kiss ass. If they want to keep the account longer to peddle fakes they will accept your return and pay for shipping. If they are just in it for a 1 week sell 5 flat screen TV and GTFO than they will do just that. Half the time you will not even know for sure if this is a scammer or not. They will hack someone elses account with more feedback and use that account to trick you into sending them money! Paypal might hold "some transactions for 21 days" this will not stop the scammers! They already know or can figure out how to trick this system to make it possible.

I should have mentioned what kind of buyers would also be left.

When the good sellers are limited/NARU'd they will either give up or go find another venue. The good buyers - who have used eBay for a while - will follow them to the new venue if they know where the good sellers are going.

With many good buyers leaving eBay will be full of NOOBS and SCAMMERS. The 1/2 the noobs end up being nonpaying bidders. Maybe there will be some decent noobs but sooner or later they will not be noobs anymore and they will figure out eBay is not the best site for them to buy the products they want because of the level of sellers. These prior noobs will leave for better quality of service elsewhere.

Of course where there are sales there are scammers. So the scammers will scam and sellers will become more and more frustrated when they lose money hand over fist to these scammers. Unfortunately with the new feedback system sellers cannot tell who the scammers are. The scammer ratio will go up .... but than it will level out as more and more good sellers leave. The scammers will also follow the good sellers because its no use scamming shit sellers and other scammers. You can only scam each other for so long before both users end up figuring out it is better to scam else where in a market place where you can actually scam some one.



When I tell people IRL I sell stuff on eBay I always here the same things: I was scammed, I bought fakes, Worlds biggest Garage Sale. eBay is doing nothing to change this and will end up chasing all the good sellers off the site and end up with shit sellers and shit buyers.

.... anyways I need to get to riled up about this right now.

So scammers start up tons of accounts, phish other peoples accounts and ebay sees that all these banned accounts constantly link to the same paypal accounts and paypal sees constant disputes and chargebacks on these accounts and they don't do anything about it? They either let scammers continue to sell or allow new accounts? How do they do it, fake names? Fake bank accounts? Paypal is strict as hell, how do they stay under the radar?

There are sites that have all sorts of personal information ... IDs, CCs, SSN ... you name it they have it. You need to make a fake internet persona to scam someone than it is pretty damn easy.

Its a lot harder to catch someone using this information to set up accounts. If you use a stolen CC and set up a eBay/paypal account but nothing is charged and then the real owner of the account might not notice there is a problem for a long time. If they do not see any unauthorized charges they will never know someone is using their information to run a scam. If you start charging stuff right away then you have a much better chance of getting caught. They will notice a bunch of unautorized charges on the account. If you are just using it to "verify" your ID with paypal to withdraw your scammed money from the account then chances are no one will know until it is to late. With a good fake ID and SSN it is easy to walk into a bank and make a new account. Hell you can sign up for an online account. Than you don't even need to step foot in the bank.

Paypals system is strict (or so it seems to someone not using it to scam) ... however if it is so strict then why is it that every day you can read about new people getting scammed with that system? Because it is not as secure as they would like you to believe.

Even paypal itself encourages users to make unsafe transactions. They make you go through a 2 pages process in order to pay with a credit card. Asking if you are sure you would like to use this card because paypal will offer you protection (Blah blah BS). A credit card offers way more protection then paypal ever could ...
