Shes a size 26/27 and she tried on some at AE (I dont know why she even tries), and some R&R, Citizens, SFAMs, and TR at Saks. She just got back from a trip to Europe so thats all she saw there and she fell in love with the look.
Shes short though and the jeans fit her too tight in the thighs so the look just wasnt what she wanted and she left the mall nearly in tears. She gets upset about herself when shes shopping sometimes even though shes tiny.
Are there a lot of girls who are as small as size 26/27 who just cant do skinny jeans? Are there any other types of cuts that might work for a similar look to skinny jeans? I felt so bad to see her so upset about it itd be great to cheer her up with something similar.

I think only a very small portion of the population can get away with the skinny-leg look, so she shouldn't be so harsh on herself! But yeah, straight-leg jeans would be a great choice.

As do a lot of girls.
And yeah, thats what I told her, but its hard when she just came from a trip to Europe where people are much more fit than they are here in the US.

I have no sympathy for anyone who is a sz 26 / 27 and says they are "big"
there are sz 23 folks who cant pull off the skinny look and there are sz 32 people who can, it just depends on how it works with YOUR body.
With that said, straight legs are a good thing to try. I love how they look on me, but I hate skinny jeans

lol yeah I know what you mean, whenever she gets upset about it I try to remind her that 95% of girls would kill to be a 26 or 27. Im sure everyone knows girls like this. she has the mindset of a girl with an eating disorder, it kills me sometimes.

god i hope she doesn't think a 26/27 is "big" b/c that's what i am and i don't consider myself big at all. being able to pull off skinny jeans depends a lot on your body type

I'm not sure how tall she is but regardless, size 26/27 isn't very big. I agree about straight legs. I like my Paige Melroses, and I'm about to buy a pair of Joe's Cigarettes.

Be happy that most people can pull off straight legs as I cannot Damn my muscular/fatty man-calves. I love the look of them on girls though.

It completely depends on the brand, the denim, the rise, the inseam, the whole over all fit of the jeans etc just cause one pair didnt look right doesnt mean all of them wont. Im a size 26/27 myself and i always thought i couldnt wear skinnys until i tried on some frankie B skinnys and then Diesel matics in 81m wash, matics and frankie Bs are really the only skinnys i look good in i think, i just look silly in the rest, i only have a 30" inseam as well.
So make her try some diesel matics, 81m wash is the best, i best they will fit her fine and she will look great. If she still isnt comfortable then she should try straight leg cuts to start off with they are just as sexy and make sure the rise isnt to high i wouldnt ever go with a rise over 7.5 for me but i find 6.5 - 7" rises are the best on skinny cuts
I do have sympathy for her i think everyone feels this way sometimes when they are just having a bad day, i get it quite alot its normal.
You seem like a very loving supportive boyfriend too so thats good

try diesel lowky's. they aren't technically skinny, but they are a very slim straight cut with a narrowish leg opening. they can be pulled off as skinnies on people who can't do the full-on skinny cuts.

I am a size 24/25 and have a hard time with the skinny look. My calves are muscular ( I also have muscular thighs), so most of the time when I try on skinnys they literally get stuck on my calves. I prefer straight legged cuts myself. Some straight legs end up being skinnys on me

i think skinnies/straight legs look the best on people who are not very curvy, regardless of their size. as for thighs - i have big thighs for my size and that is ALWAYS the problem that keeps me out of certain jeans. i know you said she tried TR but did she try stellas? those are my favorite.
also like other people said those matics look great on everyone!

Awww dizzy, I'm sorry your gf felt that way. Its tough sometimes. Tell her not to be upset, not all fashion trends that come out suit all body types. There is definitely a jean out there that probably she can rock better than any girl next door.
If she has shorter legs and she doesnt want to wear heels, the next best trick is to get dark denims. They create the illusion of length. Boot cut jeans are best, they flatter every shape and will always be in fashion. (hopefully the men in Diesel dont hear this comment... ) Tell her to make sure the hem is only 1cm above if not just grazing the floor.

Also if you're short, then 26/27 isn't really 'small'

IMO it's the same w/ guys and girls...being able to pull of tapered jeans is not a matter of size per se but body type/proportions. Big thighs in itself is relative to the rest of your body. I'm a 32w (which is usually a no no for tapered jeans) but I think I can rock Thanaz fairly well. I just have relatively normal-size legs in proportion to the my upper body/waist.
It just depends on body type b/c believe me, i've seen some curvy girls who look stunning in tapered jeans like matics.

27 isn't exactly 'tiny' if you're like 5'.
