What a beauty!

If I had money, I would buy a pricey cat before I would buy a lot of things...like I don't really care that much about cars at all.

For a long time I wanted a Savannah cat...those look like that...but not quite as big...they are $3-4K.
But I decided that it deserved more room to run around than my little apartment and settled for my $1000 little bugger.

Hmmm...I am curious about the source of that info. Not doubting you, but carefully breed cats like these usually have SUPER personalities. They breed for look and temperament.

I used to live with a girl who had a Bengal, which is an asian leopard cross (the cat in the article is part asian leopard) and he is the friendliest fella you would ever want to meet.

Man...imagine how much you would have to empty the litter box for a 30lb cat. That is like...3 regular cats.

I've been reading more and this cat apparently is very similar to the Savannah cat that I mentioned before...the big difference is that they have been able to get them to be consistently big (Savannah's are all over on size from 15-30lbs).

Savannahs are usually described as being very dog-like. They like walks...play in water.

It's just like spending $1000 for a purse. You're not buying the purse because it's worth $1000, you're buying the purse so that other people know you have $1000 to spend on a purse.

(I swear, if anyone goes and says that now I'm comparing a cat to a purse, I just might shoot them.)

NOT saying that you are comparing cats to purses...but as someone with a $1000 cat I can tell you that I did not buy him (primarily) for other people's response to him.

I bought him because I did a ton of research and he was the most suitable cat for me. The smallest domestic breed, VERY social and friendly. Sleeps under the covers and "helps" in every activity. I view a pet as a member of my family...and a worthwhile investment. I hope he lives to be a ripe old age and I am willing to make an investment to ensure a desirable temperament.

There are also people who don't buy expensive purses for their status, but rather for the unsurpassed quality of the workmanship and their sheer artistry.

I'm not talking about $1000 cats though. I personally would not pay $1000 for a cat, but I can see why some people would, and you're right, it's usually not about status. But if you are paying $22,000 for a cat, you are paying for the exclusiveness of owning the cat.

As far as purses go, there is up to a certain amount where you are paying for quality and artistry, but after a certain amount, you're just paying for status. Besides, there are many brands out there that are shoddy quality for the price, and there are also many brands out there that are inexpensive but well-made.

I am highly allergic to cats (touching a cat or cat hair, then my face results in swelling, tearing, itching, etc.) but have become able to tolerate cats over the years to a certain extent. Some cats are better than others in this regard.

Nevertheless I have two loving rescued cats that I would never give up. I have to take allergy medication most days, sometimes nasal spray and Benadryl if I have a fit, but I don't care... I love the little buggers.

$22,000 would buy so much food for rescued/ shelter cats it's not even funny.

ETA: I thought this article was about the cat engineered to be non-allergic, but this is much more ludicrous. If someone loves cats that much $22,000 can really go far towards rescuing, treating, neitering, feeding and adopting out loving rescued cats, who IMO have as much going for them as any purebred...

We have had terrible trouble with purebreds in our family-- first an Australian Shepherd, then a Siamese-- both developed fatal diseases we were told were linked to strong genetic traits from earlier inbreeding. We apparently didn't know our breeders at all.
