^hellz nah

I'll forever be a Thrice fan..have been since First Impressions..yes, even before Identity Crisis! But you can't honestly tell me that Vheissu or any of this Earth Wind & Fire crap is as any good as Illusion of Safety or even Artist in the Ambulance!

I've said this before and I'll say it again..it's one thing for a band to evolve and have their music sound more mature...but it's another thing to just completely change your genre! This experimental/ambience shiz they've been cookin' up is just not the post-hardcore, energy-driven shit I loved from them back in the day.

Their new shit is GOOD, don't get me wrong. But it's just not what Thrice used to be If I want to listen to experimental shit, I'll go listen to an experimental band..not the once-best post-hardcore band from the OC!

Thrice wrote the music without a major label behind their recording process, and on their own time, with their own money...everything they produced was exactly who they are. My brother has met them countless times because he and his band are great, personal friends with other dudes such as The Audition, The Sleeping, and Bayside just to name a few...And he has partied privately and met privately on more than one occasion, with the men from Thrice...needless to say, having come from the mouths of many of the most amazing musicians on the rock and roll scene today, I will relay the message further that Thrice are to this day, and will remain one of the most talented rock bands in history, and probably the most musical of any young groups right now.

They are making rock history, and are legendary.

Btw here is my brothers band

edit- all the tracks on that myspace link are demo/pre-pro

^totally agreed.

My only point was that I miss their old sound and calling their new music just as good is appalling to me

When I first heard songs from Artist in the Ambulance live, before the CD came out, I was like wtf happened to Thrice. I refuse to listen to anything new by them. So many bands do that shit, it sucks.

^Word, but I think Artist in the Ambulance was their last good CD. They still had their sound on that album.

Agreed, that was just when I realized the direction it was going to go.

P.S. Why, when bands choose to "evolve" their sound, it's always towards the mainstream. Maybe I'm just cynical, but does musical evolution always require a building up of a fanbase on an underground scene, then adopting more and more mainstream attributes to attract more fame and monetary success? Why doesn't anyone ever "evolve" in the opposite direction?

hahaha. im sorry but i cant help but laugh.

bands dont choose to evolve their sound...especially indie bands. choosing to evolve is an oxy-moron anyway. they just evolve, its not complicated, its just what happens.

edit: and if being mainstream were a choice, how many bands do you think would do that? getting to the "mainstream" of music is hard and rewarding and is often a goal set by bands. bands like thrice are older dudes that have been making music for the better part of a decade now and didnt choose to do anything other than put out a 4 record volume, rather than another single album.

Bands can have a mainstream sound friendly to the masses without having popularity. It's pretty easy to see what is popular and to mimic it. Ever heard of music producers? To deny that it's a conscious change to adopt more popular elements into your music is a bit naive.

Edit: I used "evolve" in quotes in my other post precisely because I don't believe it is natural.
