I was a swimmer from the age of 6 through highschool, and as a result, I have large lung capacity and large ribs as well. I was just wondering if anyone on here has the same issue.

problems I have run into:
-when using the formula to figure out bra size, I get a negative number even though I'm a borderline A/B cup, and all of the bras I try on are tight in the back
-not being able to wear shirts that are fitted under the bust, which on virtually all other women is a flattering look
-having to size up one or two sizes on dresses just to fit the ribs
etc.

generally I have figured out what clothing flatters me more, but it is still a pain because there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

Not only are you a Jennifer you have a large ribcage as well. I have been an athlete all my life (as you know, that's a long time) BUT I think it is just a physical feature. I am very short waisted and bras are a friggin nightmare for me.
One plus is that my posture is still very good because if I didn't stand up straight all my life I wouldn't have been able to breathe You look great in your clothes, so you have definitely figured it out.

Try living through the early 90's. super high waisted with tucked in blousy shirts. That was a sad time for the begret.

Sadly I don't have a good lung capacity anymore because I got pneunomia when I was 13 but I have a big rib cage as well. I have problems with buying dresses cause I can never get them zipped up near the ribs, along with having a 36D chest

me too! My ribcage is not only large but, it is angled backwards so my floating ribs stick out (used to be worse when i was a kid i.e. before boobies)

It's a pain but, I deal with it. The dress thing is depressing though
What?

My friend has this... she buys everything one size up and then takes it to her tailors. My problem is that my legs are size 26 and my waist is a size 28

I can't tell you how thrilled I was when low-rise jeans started to become popular in the later 90's, because suddenly I dropped at least one pants size due to having small hips. plus my stomach is sensitive and higher rises always give me stomachaches. tucking in shirts or wearing belts around my waist has always looked fairly ridiculous on me because it makes the ribs more prominent. and I have athletic thighs as well. hell, all I have to do is start a little strength training for a week and all of my muscles come back.

I think you are going to be my body double for jeans now. anytime I have a sizing question, I'm going to ask you first

I totally agree!!! Because of my big stomach and small hips, I always had tummy pains and a hard time finding jeans along with my mom.

WELL I tried on 14 bras today at various places. THEY ALL SUCKED. Btw, I cannot stand underwire poking into my ribs either.

Trippy, imagine an underwire bra big ass belt AND high waisted pants.

courtzzz you said mom and jeans in the same sentence.

I've pretty much given up on bra shopping. I've found one bra that fits, and will occasionally buy that same bra in a different color. if nothing else, I'm small-chested enough where I can get away with wearing tanks w/ built-in bras on a day when underwire just feels too damn constricting.

do you have the problem where the cups aren't far enough apart to properly line up with the boobage?

My mom and I have the same body shape and we share clothes. She also has a little collection of COH, SFAM, TR, Paige, and R&R

^^^That's great! Your mom doesn't wear mom jeans!! That is way cute, you can share!
Yes, Trippy I have that problem as well, I prefer a wide back band with at least 2 hooks and am a 34B-C or 36B mostly. I don't WANT cleavage, I just want a bra that doesn't dig into my ribs. I don't have brafat at least...lots of girls complain about that.

Most of the bras these days are either 'hooter bras' where it is assumed I want to fluff up my chest or old lady bras. I saw one I liked in Target and it was a nursing bra.

^^My mom even has a HF account except I have to teach her how to post. My mom emailed me tonight for an opinion on a skirt in the HM

Most bras look terrible on me cause of my big boobs (36D), ribcage and a little bit of back fat. I've only had luck at H&M, Jacob Connexion, and this VS bra my mom bought me on ebay.
