1. List our specific goals
to lose 20 lbs by 2/18/08, (have lost 8 so far towards that goal) Ultimate goal is 50 by 10/31/08, but am taking th3 loss in 3 steps

2. List the reason(s) why we want to achieve this goal
~ to take control of my weight/life
~ know that I worked toward an actual goal,
~ feel good in my clothes and in my body
~ this time when I am thin I'll KNOW it

3. State some possible obstacles that we might encounter and ways to overcome these obstacles
~ Can't picture myself with a healthy lifestyle ~ plan out my schedule and KNOW I can be healthy
~ seeking comfort from food ~ ackowledge what I am struggling with, change what I can, accept what I can't and continue towards my goal
~ being perfectionistic ~ accept & remember that I'll never be perfect, but I can continually improve

4. List some ways that you will go about achieving this goal
~ cardio 5x a week for 30 minutes
~ Pilates 2x a week
~ Good stretch after each cardio
~ plan my meals 2 weeks at a time and stick to the plan/budget

5. State a specific time limit on your goal, it helps to have an end in site
1st goal 2/18 ~ 20 lbs
2nd goal 5/16 ~ 17 lbs
3rd goal 10/13 ~ 15 lbs * final goal weight

Great start Kenics!!!! ^ sounds like you have a realistic plan in mind.

I am so proud of all you lovely ladies so far!!!

Dieselsmomma: Snowboarding is a fantastic wrokout!! I wish I could hit the slopes more often but alas, in iowa there aren't many slopes to ride. My snowboard is crying in the corner from never being used...

Callire: Glad you are back on track. A trick I learned recently to avoid overeating during the holidays is to fill up before I go somewhere on veggies or have a sandwich, that way I only eat a little bit of my favorite things.

Malves: try to get a little more specific on some of your goals (not that you have to post them here, just where you can see them). The more specific you are the harder it is to slip up. And maybe you could get your hubby to join you, sort of like a family goal. Leading a healthier lifestyle is better for everyone in the end!!!

thanks Briar patch I love encouraging threads like this!!! I'm just learning to snowboard, but given that I have no balance (seroiusly, none) I"m doing SUPER well. I was mastering backwards last night, and tonight I'm learning how to turn before tomorrow morning when we head out to sunshine! I'm so excited, I've never been before. I figure 3 days of snowboarding must be good (well...maybe not for my ass).

1. List our specific goals

To lose 5-10 pounds and fit back into my size 27 Joes and new 27 Quaalude wingers
To get into shape because I do not want to be an out of shape nursing student for next year
To be fit and healthy

2. List the reason(s) why we want to achieve this goal

Be healthy, fit and not have to buy bigger jeans

3. State some possible obstacles that we might encounter and ways to overcome these obstacles

40 Hours of studying and classes since Nursing is an intense program-->Go to the gym or do some kind of exercise after class on top of walking to school.

I have previously lost 40 pounds and the elasticity in my stomach is shot

Plan exercise time as ME time!!

a) if you want to get more specific you can use what is called an implementation intention which is a way to fight the urge to backpedal against your goal For example: If my goal is to go to class everyday this semester and I know that I might have the urge to skip I will give myself a reward for coming to class such as allowing myself to get a coffee if I go but, if I don't go no coffee...get it?

Reward is buy one nice thing for myself once a month or maybe a treat meal once a week to keep me motivated because it has worked in the past

4. List some ways that you will go about achieving this goal
-going with the school example: waking up on time, going to bed early, making sure my homework is done on time etc....

I will continue to walk to school, take an hour out 3-5 days/week to exercise and not worry about school, keep my gym bag packed and ready to go, make a schedule, eat a healthy diet

5. State a specific time limit on your goal, it helps to have an end in site

Keep exercising till I am finished school but I would like to make it a lifetime habit, Lose the 5-10 lbs and get into my 27's by January 31.

After months of calorie counting and a bit of exercise I've lost 30 lbs. I'm almost at my initial goal weight when I first started losing weight but with the holidays I need a kick to get back into gear!

1. List our specific goals

To lose the last 6-10lbs
Start working out
Get back to calorie/fat/carb counting again

2. List the reason(s) why we want to achieve this goal

I'm starting over in almost every other part of my life so why not here as well.

3. State some possible obstacles that we might encounter and ways to overcome these obstacles.

Holiday eating/drinking - holidays are over!
Winter weather - use treadmill at parents

4. List some ways that you will go about achieving this goal

Use the treadmill 3+ times a week again, do strengthening exercises as well.
Buy more fruit and veggies
Stop eating fast food

5. State a specific time limit on your goal, it helps to have an end in site

5 lbs by my shopping trip President's Day weekend (Feb 16th-18th)
The rest by May 1st

Yay everyone for joining even during this hard time of year.

I'm finding my drinking cals are hard to keep down. BUT! BUT! I have been running everyday, which isn't helping. I feel like I'ive gained at least 2lbs since I left for my vacation, but I'm too afraid to scale in. How's everyone else doing? Happy Holiedays all!

^ Good for you for working out! I've done nothing... nothing... nothing...

I've officially gained 3 pounds from what I originally lost, but I may need to reevaluate my weight loss goal. I think I might loose a little more after I get back the 3 pounds. The main issue is that (so far) I've only lost weight from my stomach (which is fantastic). I'm just worried that soon my chest will disappear and since the entire point (new goal) is to look great in my swim suit (never too early to start worrying about Spain) I might loose another 5 and then start weight training like crazy.

I am hoping to just hold steady till New Years right now.

I am exercising every day so far, but not that careful with what I eat, but not completely blowing it either...

UPDATE
Ok, I have done some thinking and here is my new plan.
-I want to lose 30 pounds total.
-I am going to lose 5 lbs by the end of January.
-I bought the book Platinum Workout by LL Cool J and it has a great eating/workout plan with graduated workouts as you go.
-I will work out 3 times a week for the month of Jan. and then slowly increase to 5x a week.
-Hubby is on board.
-I am getting a ticker.
What do you all think?

Great Idea Briar

1. List our specific goals

I would like to lose about 5-10 and tone my body, my ideal jeans size would be 27-28.. I am now a size 30-31 in TR jeans

2. List the reason(s) why we want to achieve this goal

after having a child, your body gets really messed up and so being my body needs to be more toned, I am so afraid to even walk around in my undies in front of my dh.. terrible I know but this is my main reason, I want to tone up and look like I truly have a 25 yr old body.. not a Grandma bod

3. State some possible obstacles that we might encounter and ways to overcome these obstacles

I need a better meal and work out plan, gosh I need to push myself to work out but once I get into it again its so fun.
I am also going to do a celeb fast with lemon and cayenne pepper water drink for about a week, it also cleans your body out too and I've heard great reviews about this diet but you cant do it long cause you can get very thin

4. List some ways that you will go about achieving this goal?

Work out at least 5 days a week with doing major cardio first for 2 weeks then mix up with high muscle training
Need to eat better

5. State a specific time limit on your goal, it helps to have an end in site

I will try to start January 3rd.. hopefully I can get to my goal but Feb 19th!

Heres a link to do the cayenne pepper and lemon water diet.. I am going to try it for about 6 days only, no more then that.
Heres a great exsample, remember a few months ago Jared Leto put on tons of weight for a movie, well he lost 70 pounds by doing this diet in 10 days.. very scary to lose that much weight in such a short time cause its very bad for your heart, so I am going to do it for either 6 days or until I drop 5-10 pounds. Its going to be very hard not to eat cereal LOL

this is a great thread. good luck girls on your goals!

to royal cow: the lemon diet (called the master cleanse) is actually NOT primarily for losing weight. the focus is to clean out the body of buildup from eating unhealthy foods. because the cleanse is an all liquid fast, you do end up losing weight but about half to all of it is regained when you go back to normal eating and your intestines fill up again with food. if your aim is to specially lose weight i would suggest reduced calories, but definitely still eating solids and lots of exercise.

im actually doing the master cleanse right now and im on my 10th day and going for one more day. ive lost 6 pounds but it definitely feels like the weight will come back when i start eating solid food again. on the other hand, i do feel more energized and less congested.

heres a forum for the master cleanse and its really really helpful. i would start out by reading the "general help for the newbies" thread:
http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9

if anyone wants to do the cleanse, feel free to ask me any questions.

I don't know how many people are in college here but my college is offering lots of exercise classes from $30-$60/semester. Since the classes are once a week, I plan to take 1-2 to help my goal but to also try new exercises and stay motivated.

I haven't decided on a 2nd class but my first class I am going to sign up for is absolutely arms, which works the arms and abs.....so excited!!!

Thanks for the info, I've heard mixed stories about this lemon master cleanse, a lot of Hollywood do it for cleaning but a lot have done it for weight.
