Sweeet! Whats the 4 layer facial? Is it like an ultra penetrating facial or something? what are the benefits of it? I know each one focuses on improving something specific...

Here is the info about it from the spa I go to:

4 Layer Facial

This ninety-minute treatment is designed to firm and tone the face. Layer upon layer of European seaweed is applied to the face followed by a mineral-rich thermal mask. This treatment is excellent for facial detoxification. The results are amazing: younger looking skin with a beautiful glow. (90 min.)

Sweet, do the results last a reasonable amount of time with good maintenance & cleansing routine would you say?

Thats great, thanks, I think that one would be pretty beneficial for me! So the treatment roughly takes 90 mins? Must be relaxing!

I just got a deep pore facial a couple weeks ago. My first in 3 years. It was amazing! Hurt like hell, but I needed one badly. I also have an oily T-zone + blackheads on my nose. Whenever I break-out, it's normally on my forehead. You should definitely get one!

I've had a deep pore facial before. I noticed I had a very fine blanket of black heads mostly on one side of my nose, in that area where it is too tight to go after anything. The facial helped, I really needed to go back about 2 more times to really take care of it.

Why do you want the facial? I think that is the more important question. Do you just want a period of pampering, are you wanting to accomplish something for your skin? If you have a salon in mind that you want to go to, I would see what types of facials they offer and speak with them about what you are looking for. It can get failry customized.

Also, I know when I lived in Oregon I had a friend in beauty school, someone I trusted very well. I would see her weekly for her to 'learn' on me. I loved it, I seriously miss those days

Aww thanks so much for your help kenics, I am looking to both pamper & help my skin out a little. I have periodic break outs on my cheeks only, which is weird? Anyhoo, Im not sure if they have anything to help with that? or scars?

But I do have some black heads and want a little radiance boost. I am super excited also cuz I have never had one before. Perhaps it would be best just to ask the lady at the spa & see what they recommend as well?

Thanks so much for all your suggestions & help.

sorry for a late reply...

I was so gung-ho about extraction facials = clean up blackheads and get rid of oil deposits in your skin.
I've got pretty deep pores around my cheek area, so I tend to break out there as well. I've had extractions before, and they do make your skin look really beautiful afterwards.

But, lately I've been told by several ppl that extraction facials are pretty bad for your skin. It might actually cause more damage than good. I wish I could remember exactly where I heard this from, but it was from a reputable source. Apparently extractions are quite harsh for your pores, and it can break the skin (or something like that).

I just thought I'd add in my own 2 cents about facials. Facials should be a wonderfully relaxing experience, so hopefully you've found something that makes you feel happy

Facials in general are good IMO not only for your skin but for your facial muscles also. The massage part of the facial is very relaxing too.

Has anyone ever broken out after a facial? I have a gift certificate to get a facial at a salon but haven't gone yet since it's in another city and I haven't coordinated one of my visits with an appointment yet. I'm also a bit worried about timing. My birthday's coming up and I don't want to break out on my birthday.

It depends I think. Typically you know what type of products to stay away from (ie) perfume based, oil, or creams/washes that have a certain chemical that you know cause a reaction to your skin. I would ask the person doing it just to be sure. + dont they use more natural products therefore less likely for you to react or break out from?

Maybe take up the facial after your birthday just in case hun.

Ho-hum, this obvious threadjack doesn't even require an ounce of wit. Too easy.

For a better example, please look to SevenKid's response toward the bottom of the first page on this thread:

success is determined by catering to the lowest common denominator, not by quality (unfortunately)! there are ways around this, however (fortunately).
