so i need to get a cheapish tux for a few occasions over the next few months. anybody know a good website that carries slim-fit (dior-esque) tuxedos for cheap? I'm a size 36 jacket, so they'd have to go down to small sizes.

something that looks a bit like this:

ok,

i want under $500.

yes, i know i'm not going to get a quality tuxedo for that price- i care much more about the cut than the thread count of the wool, etc.

i think my size is pretty slim- by a size 36 i mean that it technically the measurement of my chest but no actual mainstream (under $1000) size 36 suits look decent on me because of the cut.

i have a pretty good tailor, and i'd be willing to get it tailored some too- however, i've had slacks tailored the shit out of and it screws up alot of the fit if it's too much.

Man, i was in China a couple of years ago and got a custom made suit - $300. Top quality and cut slim to my tastes (i literally brought in a picture and showed them how slim i wanted - since most men wear rather bulky suits). Anyway, it turned out great, but i've lost weight since - so now it's not quite right.

Wondering - any reputable websites that make made-to-measure and ship from China?

If your occasion calls for a tuxedo, please don't try to dress up a black suit.

^i tend to agree with sev. and when i want to buy a nice slim suit, i'll probably be cool spending significantly more than $500 if necessary and it's worn daily. i just want the tux for cheap because i won't wear it more than a couple times a year or so.

unless you are getting married in it, you should always rent a tux.

the thing is, renting a tuxedo is more or less $100. depending on how cheap i could get one, after i wear it 3 or 4 times i break even and i can get it tailored to look substantially nicer.

yeah, but there is absolutely no way you are going to find a tux that looks decent and fits slim like you want it for anywhere even close to $500. hell, it would be a bitch to find one for under $1000 if it would even be possible then. and they will tailor rentals however you want usually. its part of the price. they just do it so that it can be let back out.
