Why buy something cheap and eventually never feel really comfortable with?
I say neither nor.

^Not everyone wants to spend $300+ on a pair of boots. Especially if they live in CA?

That is right. But then, why spent money on it anyways? I say: buy things that you like. If you have doubts about an item in the first place, then you are likely to not wear it very often.
I do have cheap items that I really love indeed. Even more than compareable high end gear. But I loved each and every one of those pieces from the start.
And to be honest: I think boots are different from clothes. If they are cheap, it is most likely very noticeable that they are. And I expressed my opinion that I did not like any of those pictured. All imo

Josh, the barneys is having the sale right now in seattle. Band of Outsiders goes on sale today, I reserved a green striped shirt in small. $180 is what it comes down to after tax, after I try it on I may get one for the first time.
But the only smalls they had were the tea colored oxford, a green striped, and a purple striped shirt with the alternate, boxier cut.

at the seattle store, the band of outsiders stuff did not go on sale until yesterday. Perhaps at the 1 day presale but having been there and seeing it with my eyes and talking to the people working there, some of the stuff was on sale but not the boo until yesterday.
