i don't work at an agency and i'm not in advertising. i do promotions and experiential/field marketing. i just made the move from working locally in the chicago market with glaceau to taking over the national field marketing program for a new becerage launching this summer. i plan to stay where i am for quite a while if things go well since i am the highest ranking marketing person in the company and as we grow i will continue to be in that position with more people being added under me. down the road i will likely end up in brand management or at the director level at a specialty agency perhaps.
i do have lots of friends in advertising who work at various agencies here in chicago. you will definitely have casual dress at pretty much any ad agency. though i doubt you will 'start out' in copywriting. everyone i have ever known who has gone the agency route starts out as a bitch and makes their way into their chosen area after a few years of long hours, grunt work and shitty pay. once you get in though you are usually set and can typically get great pay increases every few years by jumping agencies. hell, switching companies in almost any field will get you a big raise though. i upped my salary by almost $30K by leaving glaceau and taking a higher level position elsewhere...

just a heads up to anyone who lives near a saks, they are having a HIGE sale today and tomorrow only. pretty much the entire men's designer collection is on sale for 40% off. including ALL dior jeans, both raw and washed so you could get the new ss08 umc's for a huge discounht. or any other diors you may want. unfortunately saks doesn't carry 27's so i am screwed on this one, but hopefully someone can make it to a saks tomorrow and score some deals. and they will ship, so if they have what you want at another location they can have it sent to you. and its not limited to the jeans or just to dior either.

i can assure you that is not true. my associate at saks actually let me look through their entire inventory system with him and check out all the jeans available in usa saks stores to see if they had anything i was interested in in my size. every single pair is 40% off, as is every dior jacket and shirt.
maybe they only have 1 style of washed jeans at the location you called or something. my store actually only had 2 styles, both of which were on sale, and their dior selection is actually decent. they actually had a third washed style but they sold all of them before i got there. if anything you are lucky they even answered. they are probably really busy and just didn't want to deal with a customer on the phone as they aren't taking call in orders anyway during this event. while i was at the chicago saks today every phone was ringing off the hook and the sa's were just picking it up and hanging up without even answering. my sa even tried to call a store to check on something for me and got hung up on immediately. just go there if you are interested in buying something and see what is available and what your sa is willing to do for you to get it.
i will say that the saks denim buy wasn't that big, as they only bought i think 7 washed styles for the usa this season. one of which is white. but of course the raws should be available in most sizes, just not the smaller ones.

^^ what's at Chicago? I've been told to size up from raw for the washes, which is cool since 32 is more common than 31....
I wish orange overdye was still sold!

chicago has umc (only 2 pairs left) and some ugly boring darker washed ones. and the raws. both washed pairs are mii though (ALL umc's are mii and always have been fyi), and you don't size up for washed mii, only the mij washed jeans.
ETA they still make the orange overdye, it just goes by a different name now. they were calling it dust wash for a while and now i think it is called rattle my cage. they have them on eLuxury.

i'd guess that UMC in a 31 just isn't there. what was the retail on those originally?
for orange overdye and dauphin i'd want up 1, rite?

the sizes of umc were 31 & 33 when i was there. retail of $495.
sizing on either of those depends on if they are mii or mij. and even then it varies by season sometimes. just always get measurements for the washed jeans because there is no definitive guideline to them. only that you would NORMALLY want to size up 1 when comparing apples to apples (19cm mij to 19cm mij for example).
