With the $30 pair, no, because the indigo used will run like crazy, and it won't look very good.
The Levi Vintage Collection, or better yet, a pair of Sugar Cane 501's will wear like that. That's actually the inspiration for Nudies and just about every other brand that makes dry jeans (APC, JR, etc.): a very well worn pair of 1947 era Levi 501's.
Oh, and for women, besides Denimbird, I'd suggest getting a pair of Earnest Sewns, they're available in Dry Selvedge in just about every cut (I'm personally breaking in a pair of men's Fulton one-rinse selvedges).

These are my rigid skinners after 6 weeks. I don't plan to wash them untill around june. Very anxious to see how they fade. Does anyone know how much I should expect the waist to shrink?

zoo village is the best for variety and prices. Thats where I got my RR and SJD from for a fraction of the price they are selling them at fos5. Kitchener is too, but they lack decent sizes at times and lack of a decent collection

Great looking Levis man!! Are they just as good as nudies, denim wise? Maybe I can purchase a pair of skinners to start my first jean fading project. I love naturally faded jeans, they have real character in them, not the rigid machine faded with no character. Give me some suggestions guys, something other than nudies that may not put a damper on my finances. Also, do I have to wear these every day to get them faded faster? because I have many other jeans I like to wear also?

basically, you are paying for the quality of indigo when you go for the raw jeans. there are tons of brands offering raw denim nowadays, including diesel. if you want nudies they are available at a fair prices online, its been discussed here before so run a search for it.

Speaking of raw jeans, did you manage to find an online store that stocked Rag & Bone?

over the last few months, several boutiques in japan have picked up the brand so its now available here too. im also hearing about this brand called Jean Shop which is said to have a similar tone with Rag&Bone. a shop i know is getting some in within a month, im eager to see what they are like.

The R&B on the site would of been much better if the rise was much lower. 10.5" is just too much for me considering I wear my jeans off my ass.
I'll keep an eye out on Jean Shop. There's a lot of new companies emerging recently, mainly focusing their collections on raw denim. A company called Denim Circus (another Swedish brand) has released some very affordable jeans. I might buy a pair just to see what the quality of the denim is like.

Question: All these effects require wearing without washing, right? THing is, i'm stuck here in humid, sunny, tropical Singapore, where things go smelly faster without washing. What happens if i wash more frequently (say every 5 wears) than most people? Because after 3-4 wears i find that even denim has a slight smell if i stick my nose up close.
...Nobody ask me why i'm smelling my pants leg.

you have to wash as infrequently as you can to get the best results. If you keep on washing, the indigo will come out, and you wont get much fading.
On another note:

This site has a lot of Japanese brands that make raw/dry denim. Also have some raw/dry Levis and stuff.

I think cause APC has no bootcuts, and thats what is popular here. I am sure if you like slim straight leg/taper then they should be okay or something...

i tried on several raw denims from APC, Helmut Lang, Nudies, and Rag&Bone. IMO, APCs tend to be less drastic in how they look when washed after a good amount of wear than nudies. thats sort of the point i was trying to refer to posting about the indigo. if you want the jeans to look hard and beat up after wash i say nudies. if you are looking just to get the rigid/monotone look, i would recommend APC or Helmut Lang (if you can find them).
