I'm curious...is this a post to see how jeans will wear without washing them? Or do you get them dry cleaned just not wet washed??? I'm trying to understand the point

The denim in our jeans isn't prewashed, so the indigo, is very heavily saturated in the denim. So the longer you wear it, the more indigo comes out, and fades out. The jeans form and crinkle the way you wear them, and become your own jean the longer you wear them. You don't wash them so that the indigo doesn't wash out, eventually you do wash them, and you'll complete your project and all the fades and crinkles will become permanent.

This post is about how dry denim wears up. Dry denim = unwashed and untreated denim, very stiff. When wearing them oftenly, you create creases and wear. The indigo dye will eventually come out and create a very nice effect. Think of it as a personalized wash. Dry jeans should be washed only after a few months of intensive wear to obtain the best fading.

You can dry clean them if they really stink though, or just put them in the dryer with bounce at low heat.

or maybe better yet to wonder why you'd go months without washing your jeans...won't they smell funny after awhile...especially if you smoke. I promise i'm not trying to be rude I just never heard of what you all are doing and wanted to understand why.

It's been discussed.
-Not washing your jeans for months to achieve the best fading possible.
-The will probably smell but you can air them, dry clean or just put them in the dryer.
-A smoker has bigger problem than just smelly jeans.

Oops, first quote about the black and blue:
I think they are superb. I'm not sure I could pull them off but they certainly are well done and original.

anyone know if there is any way to accelerate the breaking in process, say by bike riding or exercising in them?? just curious. also does anyone know how the rise on the RR compares to the BO? im looking for a zathan type fit and im not sure how much to size down if i was to purchase one of those styles.
lastly what is the difference between Dry Greycast and Dry Selvedge?
thanks guys. sorry to be a pest.

I agree with what you are saying, and I was a skeptical of not washing them for a period of time (still am actually lol), but I've been wearing them when I'm at home and occasionally out like once or twice. When I'm not wearing them they are hanged next to my ionic breeze so I guess that helps? It's been almost 3 weeks and they haven't smelled or anything.

I'm not totally sure on the details myself but heres my shot at your questions:

If you wear your dry jeans hard with the examples you listed I'm sure you will increase the wear on the jeans which will decrease the breaking in process than someone like me who wears them around the house (they may stink more though since you might sweat more).

If you are looking for a zathan like fit I would go with Bootcut Ola which will have a shorter rise than RR (which imo is pretty high compared to my zathans). BO are also slimmer around the legs I believe. The thing with BO is that they will not come in selvage because selvage is not possible with BO's cut.

Greycast vs selvage
This one I have an idea of but I'm not expert, you will probably find more info at the mynudie sites listed above me. Basically selvage jeans are made with a different loom machine that aren't used much anymore. I believe they require more "material" because of the way they weave and the outter edge "ends by itself" instead of extra stitching.

And the reason selvage is not available on Bootcut Ola is because the outter edge of those jeans aren't straight because of the bootcut. On the RR, only the inside part of the leg seam is "bootcutted" and the outter seam is straight which is why it is possible for them to have selvage. My avatar picture is the selvage seam.

Sorry if this is hard to read...I just finished up some last minute HW and its 3:10am. Hope this helps though.
