I wanted to add a few things in here from my own observations. If you see a little red tag on the back inside waistline then the jeans are FAKE! If you see the indian head tag on the back of the jeans (under you butt if you were sitting down) instead of under the front pocket, also FAKE!

Be aware that most kratt models being sold currently are fakes, as this model has been long discontinued.

If you see a jean which is listed as cardiel, go to the diesel website to see what real cardiels look like. They have only one back pocket, and bucket-style front pockets. Also, they have no inner cloth tags.

If you see a jean which is listed as x-rotuck and does not look like the real x-rotucks listed on http://www.honestwiki.com then stay away. Real x-rotucks NEVER have the leather diesel logo on the back beltline, nor do cardiels.

Many jeans purporting to be 'x-rotuck' and 'cardiel' which are in fact replicas have been spotted on ebay. WATCH OUT! If you want to see what a real x-rotuck looks like in terms of the SHAPE of the jeans, do an ebay search for

x-rotuck 80Q

The 80Q wash for x-rotuck has never been bootlegged to my knowledge. Notice the double top waistline buttons and the flare leg. Any x-rotucks missing these two key attributes are fake.

New diesels have a new-style patch on the back waistline with a D across it. YOU WILL NEVER SEE A RED STITCHED D ON THE BACK POCKET AND THIS PATCH AT THE SAME TIME! It's always one or the other.

A real seller will have diesels in every size diesel makes, most notably inseams 30, 32 and 34. If you see anything longer than 36 and this is on a tag, its FAKE. Diesel sometimes makes garments longer than 34 inseam, but then the inseam simply wont be listed. Also look for odd waist sizes such as 29, 31 and 33 which diesel DOES make. If you see a seller who has lots of diesels and always in nice sizes like 38x32, 36x32, 34x32, 32x32, and 30x32, be careful.

Never buy any diesel jeans from a seller in any of the following countries: Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Turkey or Bulgaria.

Finally, INSIST on seeing CLEAR closeup photos of the indian head tag and make sure that the metalic strip looks right (see the honestwiki link above for examples). Lack of this tag entirely is a dead ringer.

you can also solve this problem by buying directly from the diesel stores and wholesalers to help keep the scene alive. if you live in a different area, call a diesel store with your size and fit/wash in mind and they'll be more than happy to send them to you 2 day air. ebay sucks.

A couple of problems with this: 1) Not everyone has an ebay store near them. This especially applies to folks living outside the US 2) 90% of wholesalers are ALSO selling fakes, 3) Diesel stores will not have older models etc etc

I agree that under perfect circumstances everyone would buy their diesels from the store but this simply is not always feasable. Plus, diesel stores rarely sell things discounted at all, and there are those of us (like me ) who like to save money on things on general principle or because they see it as their duty to themselves to be smart consumers...

Ok so everyone wants the dang zathan 772. I finally got off my butt and took some pix of my real ones so here goes. This post will include, in the following order:

1) My REAL zathan 772s. These are the early extra bleachy ones. They were produced over two years ago back in Feb of 03. Notice the signature distressings which are round on the outside but subtlely ripped on the inside. Also notice the uneven cuff distressings.

2) My first pair of fake zathan 772s from ebay. These ones were the most accurate, are match the ones that dave got which prompted him to start this website!

3) My second pair of fake zathan 772s from ebay. I call this one type II.

There are roughly 3-4 other 'new' batches of fakes that I've seen on ebay but they're even more obvious. The first two batches were the best

Here we go

REAL ZATHAN 772

FAKE ZATHAN 772 TYPE-1

FAKE ZATHAN 772 TYPE-2

Welcome to the Fake Diesel picture superthread!
1. pictures only please...if you want to discuss something please just make a new post.
2. please follow the basic format we have going so far
3. picture size. 520 is best...but 640x480 will work and makes the page load quicker (big 1024 images slow the page down a lot)
4. rock on!

FAKE ZATHAN 772 TYPE-1

authentic and fake zathan 772's
My authentic Zathan 772s are on the left. The fake (and worn) jeans are on the right.

Hard to see picture of microstitching.
Authentic on the left. Fake on the right

Pictures of inside of the leg.
Authentic on the left. Fake on the right.
Notice how the authentic has shinier, smaller orange stitches. (Slight but noticeable difference)

from blm14:
These I got from some dude on ebay, WAY early in my diesel buying process and before I knew about all the fakes. I had a wait a while for the guy to allow them to arrive from "his wholesaler" in asia I believe. Got em WAY after kratts were discontinued. I believe fake. Think I paid about $35-40:

I got these from denim kingdom. They're almost certainly fakes but REALLY accurate ones. Fit is right for real diesels and everything looks right but they seem a bit shoddily constructed. You can see his ebayprofile for the prices...

Denimdingdom again. Paid like $45. They're so fake. You can see the difference when I compare to the REAL ones I got from bloomingdales:

Ok here are the two pairs side by side.

The one on the left is the real one:

Again, real on the right, notice the pronounced stripeyness in the fakes:

Also, notice that the fake ones (bottom) are shorter, even tho both are 38x32:

First off, diesels are shipped overseas in bags, but these bags are LONG, large enough to fit the jeans folded in HALF. If the bag you got will only fit the jeans when they're folded into four, that's not good. The little R symbol on the coin pocket has no bearing on authenticity - different countries have different copyright laws so depending on where the jeans were made to sell they may or may not have that R. All the european ones dont whereas all the US ones do, for instance. All zathan 772s that I've seen DO have microstitching, so generally that is a good indicator of a fake if its missing. The head tag DOES have numbers stitched into it, but depending on how the tag is sewn into the jeans, you may or may not be able to see it, eg:

As far as the color & wash etc, there IS a lot of variation in diesel jeans. It would be easiest for us to see pix of the jeans or, if the listing pix are accurate, a link to the listing. Preferably both

The 'data' thing on the tag does in fact state the date of manufacture but even the fakes have this so that alone is not a proof of authenticity or not. Finally, as far as your cherones, some of the tags say LAV and some say ART instead. But all of the 772s are new enough so they should have ONE or the OTHER on the inner tags.

Post links to the auctions and/or photos of the jeans so we can render a final verdict!
